McLaughlin’s

McLaughlin’s has been lovingly built from scratch onsite using predominantly recycled and repurposed materials and the genuine artisan craftsmanship, skill and integrity of local joiner Andy McLaughlin. It is a wonderful example of what can be achieved in re and up cycling.

With views out onto open meadow guests will be able to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the countryside, the benefit of a remote location, and the regenerative and conservation farming practices upheld on the farm which attract varied and beautiful wildlife to the area.

It is an incredibly cosy space, where you can fling open the doors on a beautiful day and take in the sounds and the beautiful parkland beyond or settle in with fire and let the storms pass.

The design of our first cabin, McLaughlin’s, came about in collaboration with renowned Shrewsbury architect, James Wade following a retrospectively happy accident involving a feed lorry and an old Dutch barn. The collapse of the barn left us with an abundance of curved tin to recycle and the idea to see how much of the building we could make out of material found onsite here. It was a labour of love but we are delighted with the results and very proud of McLoughlin’s as a wonderful example of what can be achieved in re and up-cycling

Beautiful place setting was amazing and just ultimate relaxation great host couldn’t have asked for more

Absolutely incredible this stay was , Johanna the host went above and beyond to make this trip special for me and my partner and we were over the moon with the cabin the hospitality and the rest , absolutely ecstatic! I have a rule that me and the partner do not stay at the same place twice however this rule now has an exclusion, this cabin

Our stay was just great. Such lovely hosts who have done an amazing job at this little cottage. We loved where it was and it was perfect for our digital detox weekend where we were seeking peace and quiet. Also perfect for our little pooch as it was completely fenced in and allowed him to explore a bit. The hamper was also fantastic! Thanks Johanna 🙂

This is a beautifully secluded cabin with the perfect balance of character, style, comfort, and convenience.

We wanted a little bit of silence in what has been a really busy and chaotic year so far for us so McLaughlin,s was picked. Boy did it meet that for 2 day’s we didn’t see another soul. It was heaven the attention to detail here goes beyond any expectation. The place is stunning with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Tea coffee sugar salt pepper oil. Cleaning products shower products and the milk fresh eggs and a beautiful cake. We will most definitely be back thank you Johanna.

Our stay was incredible from start to finish. It was so private and picturesque. It was so clear to see how much effort and skilled craftsmanship had gone into building the cabin. It was really interesting to look at all the little quirks. The garden was safe and enclosed. The cabin was so cosy and had everything we needed. The shower was luxurious. The welcome touches from the host were so lovely. We had fun using the stove to cook breakfast and make coffee. BBQ for dinner. The hiki tub was devine and stayed hot for hours. Parking was easy, private and safe, and easy to find thanks to the what.three.words navigation. Loads of birds about to watch and listen to, including a woodpecker! We can’t wait to return.

We booked this cabin for a little quick getaway to celebrate a birthday and engagement! Johanna was an amazing host and she was very helpful whenever we needed a little help. Located in Shropshire, this cabin was perfect for walks nearby or just relaxing at the cabin. We made sure to use the hikki tub which was one of the highlights! We also brought our dog for the trip and the cabin was more than perfect in accommodating for a pet, very thankful!

What a fabulous cabin – we loved every minute of our time there. The little design details made it so special – beautiful colours, cushions – the most comfortable king size bed up the steep but beautifully made ladder. Every little detail catered for with milk, eggs, tea, gorgeous coffee and home made brownies provided when we arrived with a few goodies for our little dog too. The setting is amazing though a private forest into an idyllic and peaceful valley with nothing but bird song to be heard. We loved the Hikki bath which we made lots of use of and we highly recommend Johanna’s food hampers – we had a breakfast and barbecue hamper which were both delicious.  This was a truly special place for a bank holiday weekend and we will definitely be back.

A friend recommended Canopy & Stars when I said I was looking for a short break away – somewhere quiet with a hot tub. I also wanted to visit a friend. McLaughlin’s was in the perfect destination for visiting my friend.

The appeal for me was how the owners had used recycled materials to create something so tranquil and beautiful.  My friends on this trip were the numerous pheasants,  squirrels, birds, bats and insects all going about there business as usual. I literally just played music, read, danced like nobody was watching because nobody was, and wallowing in the hot tub – learning the skill of managing wood burning stoves although probably not as proficiently as someone with experience.

The most beautiful place I have ever stayed

The most perfect stay. Everything about this place is idyllic. I can’t shout loudly enough about how wonderful it was. The pictures don’t do it justice, you must visit to see for yourself. Johanna, although we didn’t meet in person, was the most attentive host. If we’d have needed anything (which we didn’t as the cabin has everything you could need), then I know nothing would have been too much trouble. It’s rare we visit the same place twice but we’ll definitely make an exception for McLaughlin’s! Highly recommend for a relaxing escape from the world.
